Pet Wellness Exams
We recommend annual wellness exams for your cat or dog to ensure they stay in the best of health. This annual check-up includes a thorough physical exam and any necessary vaccinations and fecal or blood tests.
Wellness exams are also a great time to talk to our veterinarian about your pet’s nutritional needs, parasite control (heartworm, flea and tick), and any other concerns you may have.
Teeth Cleaning
Even the most cooperative pet may not readily allow you to brush their teeth and gums, which means an annual cleaning by your veterinarian may be in order. Like you, your pet can lose his teeth due to decay and neglect, so it is important to keep them clean.
Because of the general risks inherent to the anesthesia used during teeth cleaning on dogs and cats, especially if they are old, young or ill, our veterinarian will likely suggest a chest X-ray and lab work of blood and urine before your pet is anesthetized. An IV might be needed during the procedure, and antibiotics may be prescribed before and after.

Medical Pet Treatment and Surgery
If you pet falls ill, we provide medical treatment for infectious diseases (parvo virus, kennel cough, parasites, etc.), endocrine disease, and cancer. We also offer geriatric and reproductive health treatment.
Surgeries performed at Charleston Animal Hospital include spay/neuter, orthopedic, and soft tissue. If your pet must undergo a special procedure, Dr. Leman may refer you to a veterinarian who has advanced knowledge and experience in that field.
Boarding
When you can’t take them with you, let us pamper your pets! We provide long term, short term, and day boarding for dogs and cats.
Our kennel has a separate entrance from the animal clinic and features:
- roomy, climate-controlled areas
- large, fenced-in exercise area
- antimicrobial PVC-coated comfort grates
- high-volume air exchange for optimal ventilation
All boarded pets are current on vaccines and parasite preventatives. We require canine flu and kennel cough vaccines in addition to core vaccines. The kennel is disinfected daily and has a veterinarian on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
